Five Key Fall 2026 Fashion Trends Seen in New York Fashion Week

On The Fringe
Fringe is officially back!
Seen on the Spring 2027 runways, designers used swinging strands to turn simple pieces into something more playful. Kallmeyer added dramatic fringe to a knitted gown and oversized clutch, alongside Simkhai, TWP, and Monse who also worked the tassel into their collections. Rather than leaning completely into Western territory, this season's fringe feels lighter and a lot more unexpected. Whether seen dangling from a scarf, dress or bag, it proves that sometimes an outfit needs a little something extra to step it up.

Texture Takes Over
Fur and fluff have long appeared on runways, but this season is less about traditional furs we’re used to seeing and more about big, exaggerated textures. Spring 2027 is set to be the first NYFW season under the CFDA’s ban on animal fur for designers, the focus was on faux fur, shaggy textiles, feathers, and other alternatives. Real or not, textures like these never fail to bring drama to an outfit.

The New Power Suit
Office suits have a reputation for being predictable, but this season is completely changing our minds - for good.
While suits are often associated with strict professionalism and tight tailoring, designers at this season's NYFW are introducing a fresh twist on classic silhouettes. Picking personality over rigid structures, everyone’s getting involved: Sergio Hudson sent out bold monochromatic skirt suits, while Tory Burch paired sharp tailoring with unexpected accessories for deliberate, off-beat styling. The idea isn’t to abandon suits, but to stop taking them so seriously. Suits this season are made to be wearable, proving you can still look polished without looking like you're headed straight into a meeting.

In Living Colour
Bright colours have been flooding the streets of New York, and it’s impossible to ignore!
Designers like Sergio Hudson, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren used vibrant primaries we know and love that made their collections feel familiar and energetic. If you’re anything like me, you’re celebrating the end of minimalism and rejoicing in the return of colour! Best of all, this is a trend that easily blends into everyday wear - adding a single bright piece or accessory turns an all-black outfit into a statement.

Wrapped Up
Tying something around your waist used to feel practical, not fashionable - and, in my case, sometimes embarrassing. But this season's designers made it look completely intentional. At NYFW, jackets, shirts, scarves, and lightweight knits were seen wrapped around the waist to add a dimensional layer to an outfit. Designers including Coach, Zankov and Ralph Lauren all played with the idea in different ways. Doing this gives an outfit a more relaxed, effortless look - “lazy chic,” if you will. It is also one of the easiest trends to recreate: grab any piece, and a simple knot will do the trick.
